FAQs

The Lutheran Leader's Companion (LLC) is a free, multilingual platform from WELS World Missions for pastors, missionaries, teachers, seminary students and church leaders. It brings together a library of confessional Lutheran books and study materials, articles, and live multilingual teaching sessions, so that leaders can learn and work together across languages. It is built in partnership with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and serves leaders in the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) and beyond.

Anyone can read the articles and browse the resource library. Downloading resources and joining live sessions is for verified leaders: pastors, evangelists, teachers, seminary students and lay leaders who serve in a congregation, school or church body. There is no charge. The platform and its materials are provided free of charge by WELS World Missions and its partners.

Click Sign up and complete the short registration form. We ask a few questions about where and how you serve so that we can confirm you are a church leader and point you to the right materials. Once your request is reviewed you will receive an email; after that, sign in and every download and live session is open to you. If you are waiting longer than a few days, write to us through the Contact page.

Open Resources, choose your language at the top of the page, and either type a title in the search box or click a topic tag (Catechism, Sunday school, Sermons and so on). Click Download on any item, read the short usage terms, and the file (usually a PDF) is saved to your device. If you are not sure where to begin, read the "Start here" articles under Articles: a new pastor's kit, teaching the catechism, Sunday school in a box, and worship and preaching.

Yes, for ministry. You may download, print and use any resource for non-commercial study, teaching and ministry within your congregation, school or church body, as long as the copyright notice stays intact. Please do not post files on other websites, forward them outside your church body, or sell them. To share a resource with a colleague, direct them to lutheranleader.com to request their own access. Translating or adapting a resource for distribution needs written permission; contact us first, since a translation may already exist.

Often, yes. Many titles exist in several of the sixteen languages on the site, and each resource description says which other languages it is available in. Switch the language at the top of the page to see that language's shelf. The library is growing: new languages and titles are added as translations are completed by our partner churches.

Live sessions are online teaching events held over Zoom, announced under Live Events. The teacher speaks one language and participants follow in their own through AI-assisted translation that works from a prepared teaching text and a theological glossary, so that doctrine is carried across accurately. You need a stable internet connection, a browser or the Zoom app, and headphones help. Recordings or notes are shared afterwards where possible.

All content is grounded in Scripture and in agreement with the Lutheran Confessions. Books and courses come from WELS Multi-Language Productions, Northwestern Publishing House and partner churches; translations are reviewed by native-speaking pastors and teachers. The platform is developed and stewarded by WELS World Missions. Questions, corrections and suggestions are welcome through the Contact page.
